I recently learned that from the 70's to the early 80's there was diesel engine option available for Jeep Wagoneers in Finland. The engine swaps were made by Berner OY, the official importer of Jeep at the time. The engine in question was 4.2 liter (4180cm3) Sisu-Valmet 411 diesel engine commonly found in Valmet tractors of the era. Rated at 85hp the diesel Wagoneers were nowhere near fast but they were considerably more economical compared to their gasoline counterparts.

Having owned a few FSJ's fuel economy is really the only downfall of ownership. Awesome! I have seen a few cummins swaps in my day

You don't say? Seriously though, that's laughably low. Can anyone find me a zero to 60 time how many seconds over 20 it takes to reach 60?

There were also some trucks converted in similar manner. Here's a brochure for Fargo Finland RG 13.

In Finnish news, Valmet used to make the Porsche Boxster and Cayman. They also made tractors before various changes in corporate ownership.

I couldn't find info about that but apparently top speed was somewhere around 120-140km/h (75-86mph)

Valmet was government owned company (name stands for val->valtion (nation's), met->metal) and it used to make a lot of things. Tractors, trucks, assault rifles, paper machines, wall clocks, camping cookers etc. But during 80's and 90's most of the company was privatized and split up.

Many parts are gone but some still remain. Here some that are still alive and doing semi-well.

-AGCO Sisu Power, off road diesel engines (they are still making inline 7!!)
-Metso/Valmet, provider for industry machinery services (for mining, paper, oil etc.)
-Sako, firearms
-Sisu Auto, truck manufacturer
-Sisu Axles, heavy duty axles
-Valmet-Automotive, car manufacturer
-Valtra, tractor manufacturer

That's not too shabby considering. I'd love to see the torque numbers though

According to this specs sheet the 411B variant which was used in the Jeeps generated 285 DIN Nm at 1350 rpm. Since some websites claim that the Jeep engines had few more horsepower than the tractor engines I'm not 100% sure the performance figures are the same.

Acceleration would've probably been okay with torque like that. This is a cool thing to learn about...I kind of want to find one of these for sale
